A four-part dramatisation of the Nativity story will be the centre-piece of BBC1's Christmas offering for 2010. It has been scripted by Tony Jordan, the writer of Hustle and Life on Mars, who is also credited with revitalising Eastenders. BBC Controller of Drama Ben Stephenson said that it would be a faithful retelling of the Bible story. He compared it to the retelling of the Passion story in 2008. The pre-watershed show will emphasise the fact that Mary and Joseph were real people "who didn't know that they were in a huge narrative of the world".
