Budding Writers
Column Idol is a partnership between The Media Trust and The Sun newspaper. It's a search for what they call "raw, undiscovered writing talent."
The competition, now in its third year, offers six 18 to 25 year olds the chance to be mentored by top journalists on the paper - with one lucky winner getting the chance to have their column printed in The Sun.
To enter you need to submit a short description of yourself, what they'd like to write about and why you deserve to be crowned Column Idol 2012.
The closing date is 15 June at midday. For more details, visit the Media Trust website

Drama Writing Competition
The Arts Centre Group is launching a new Drama Award with a writing competition and is looking for innovative and creative play scripts of 40 to 50 minutes in length. There is no fixed subject but it should in some way reflect the human condition, either personally, socially or politically, or of course these can merge.
Closing date for entry is 10 September. For more details, look at the ACG website
