What do we do?
Broadcasting Christian radio across Manchester with the aim of sharing the Christian message during the Easter period. Based near the city centre in Longsight, our shows include topical discussion, chat, live music, rap, dance, teaching, church services and interviews. As an organisation, we are a safe place to explore Christianity, often taking people under our wing on their journey of faith. A bit of history
Founded in 2003 by Victoria Park Fellowship member Andy Bell, short broadcasts have taken place almost every Easter since. The team has grown to encompass members from many churches and we are now using the maximum 4 week period allowed under OFCOM's rules each Easter.
What have we learnt?
Godly, experienced and motivated people are hard to find - but God uses the most humble of us to great effect. We have a wide variety of people working and praying with Refresh to enable each broadcast. The verse "The harvest is plentiful but the labourours are few" could be true of many Christian organisations - but as radio becomes more complex (particularly with the many facets of online communication), we realise that God intends us to grow slowly but solidly.
Who works here?
We have a core team of 5 members who head up Refresh FM - taking major decisions and planning as a group. From there, about 6 heads of departments look after the rest of the organisation which includes programming, publicity, technical, administration, reception and funding. Approximatly 40-50 volunteers help within the above roles, although if you start to include all the youth groups who present, you are looking at nearer 100-150 people. Everyone is a volunteer and gives their time freely.
How can you get involved?
For Refresh FM to become longer term - we're always looking for more volunteers. People who have a heart for sharing the good news in their local community are always welcome.
